About

Evening Lake is all about nature and mental health. If Evening Lake was a place or a moment in time it would be a beautiful Lake that leads to a beautiful, sacred forest. In the depths of that forest you would find a cabin, waiting, just for you. To get to that cabin, you would climb into a canoe and paddle across the undisturbed water. When you arrive at the cabin you would notice herbs hanging out on the porch, drying out in the last of the day's sunshine. Cold is coming but that's alright because you can light the log fire inside.

I created Evening Lake from my humble, little home in Staffordshire, England, where I still create jewellery now and for the foreseeable future. I’m a self-taught metalsmith with endless creativity and a love of designing. I spent 2022 glued to my work bench, where there was an abundance of failures, frustrations and successes and childlike happiness. It’s been quite the journey already.

Evening Lake will always strive for individuality and equality. I like gems (cabochons) that are a bit different or odd, as well as the classic beautiful gems such as Amethyst, Citrine, Garnet etc. I love stones that have banding or strange patterns. I will ensure there are plenty of strange stones amongst the classic and more well known. As for the designs, I love the moon! Did you notice? I love evening/night time, I love autumn and winter. I think space is fascinating and it always feels a little magical to have a solitary moment looking up at the incredible moon on a cold night. There will always be moon necklaces, either moon shaped cabochons or my own designs such as the Bubble Moon design. As well as the moon I love trees and forests, with a particular soft spot for grand, lonely winter trees. I’m sure you’ll see my love of nature throughout my work.

I like my designs to be robust, I like using thicker silver, I also like using textures on the silver to create a battle-worn look. For me, jewellery is about wearing something beautiful but more importantly it’s about wearing something that completes you; jewellery that you want to wear everyday, a necklace that is part of who you are. Similarly, another key factor in my design process is the consideration of mental health. I like to create pieces that feel nice, whether it’s rough or smooth to touch or that is interactive in some way so that when you’re feeling anxious you can find comfort in your jewellery.

Evening Lake is proud to set itself apart from large chain companies. What gift, for yourself or for someone else, is more special than a unique item, carefully crafted by hand that you won’t find anyone else in your social circle wearing? In addition to the pride I take in creating unusual pieces of jewellery, ethically and inclusively, I also feel it’s important to express how I feel about excessive consumption; Evening Lake wants the you to love your jewellery and hopes that people will shop with careful consideration. I probably shouldn’t say this but… if you’ve got this far I guess I can; I would rather hundreds of people purchase one or two pieces of jewellery from me and wear them all the time than a group of people buy most of my designs and rarely wear them. That being said, if you love lots of the pieces that you find in my shop I won’t judge you for treating yourself!

In honour of shopping with consideration I would like to offer customers the Waste Less Scheme. If you don’t wear your piece of Evening Lake jewellery often but it’s in perfect condition you can return it to me for store credit to the value of 50% of the cost of the unwanted item under the Waste Less Scheme (excluding earrings). I will clean up the returned piece of jewellery and resell it at a discounted rate.

I will endeavour to make Evening Lake as ethical and eco-friendly as I can, from gems to packaging. Everything is chosen with care which makes sense for any business but particularly a small business creating handmade pieces of jewellery. There’s something special about buying from a small business rather than a vast company, you can be sure that everything I have goes into this little atom on the internet.
